Christian von Zimmermann began as Förderungsprofessor des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds with the first pilot project of a new edition of Gotthelf's work in 2004. From 2004 unti 2015 he participated in the overall leadership and managed one of two parallel working groups of the HKG. As of January 1st, 2015 he manages the Forschungsstelle Jeremias Gotthelf as the overall leader of the HKG.

Since 2008 Christian von Zimmermann teaches Modern German Literature and Edition Philology at the Institut für Germanistik der Universität Bern.
